In John 5.18 and John 10.38, the Jews thought Jesus was claiming equality with God, but they were wrong. Jesus was calling God “his own Father;” he was not claiming to be God.
These books, written by people from diverse backgrounds, express the simple truth that God is one. Some of them are more scholary while others are more autobiographical. There is no question that Jesus “existed” before the world began. But did he exist literally as a person or in God’s foreknowledge, “in the mind of God?”
